What is Bladder Pain Syndrome?

Bladder pain syndrome (BPS) or interstitial cystitis (IC) is a debilitating condition characterized by bladder/pelvic pain and pressure, as well as persistent or recurrent urinary symptoms in the absence of an identifiable cause.

PRM Bladder Pain Treatment Study

Over the course of 6 weeks, 84 patients (54 female and 30 male) diagnosed with BPS/IC by a urologist, were referred to an outpatient pelvic rehabilitation center for physical therapy. After the completion of PFPT in 6 weeks, all 84 patients failed to progress with the improvement of their symptoms.

Afterwards, and through the PRM Protocol™, each of the 84 patients were given ultrasound-guided pelvic nerve and muscle treatments once weekly, over the course of another 6 weeks. Each patient also completed a session of pelvic floor physical therapy once weekly during these 6 weeks.

At 3 months post-treatment, each patient was evaluated for their pelvic pain intensity and functionality, as compared to their pre-treatment measurements.

The PRM Protocol™ Proves Improvement for Bladder Pain Syndrome

Upon analyzing the results of each patient’s Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Functioning Pelvic Pain Scale (FPPS), it was found that the highest statistical improvement was in bladder, intercourse, and going to work. Overall, these patients experienced a 37.4% decrease in pain, and a 35.9% increase in functionality.

The study concluded that the PRM Protocol™, which is a proprietary, simple, office-based procedure to treat the symptoms of chronic pelvic pain, was effective in ameliorating bladder pain and function, including urinary urgency, frequency, and burning in BPS/IC patients.

What is the PRM Protocol™?

At PRM, our unique in-office, ultrasound-guided approach to the pelvis is the first of its kind in the country. The PRM Protocol™ consists of a series of pelvic nerve and muscle treatments to directly target the spastic pelvic floor muscles, inflammation in the pelvis, and nerve pain.

The PRM Protocol™ is a proprietary, patented, simple, office-based procedure to treat the symptoms of chronic abdominal pelvic pain by a direct treatment of inflamed pelvic nerves and spastic pelvic muscles which are often the root cause of symptoms. This treatment consists of a series of pelvic nerve and muscle treatments to target inflammation in the pelvis, nerve pain, and pelvic floor muscle spasms. With the PRM Protocol™, we Reverse the inflammatory cascade caused by chronic pain conditions, Reset the pelvic environment for pain-free living, and Retrain the pelvic floor nerves and muscles for optimal functionality.
